L’Alpe d’Huez–The Resort

Les Carines is located in l’Alpe d’Huez, one of France’s oldest ski resorts dating back to the 1930s. Only some 60 km from Grenoble, l’Alpe d’Huez is situated in the confines of l’Oisans and the Grandes Rousses, among the Alps’ most spectacular mountain ranges. Among France’s largest and most prestigious ski resorts, Alpe d’Huez boasts some 240 km of groomed trails equipped with 80 lifts. Skiing and snowboarding are guaranteed all season long thanks to more than 900 snow-making machines. The trails are geared to skiers of all levels and ages. Among the resort’s highlights is the 16-kilometer Sarenne trail, the world’s longest, which will have snowmaking facilities as of the 2014-15 season. Two major ski schools cater to guests of all ages, starting at age 3. Full-day child care is available. Additional winter sports include cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, hiking, ice skating (ice rink), and swimming (2 pools). In summer, mountain climbing, rock climbing, cycling, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, golf (9-hole compact course), hang gliding, swimming, and tennis (16 courts) in addition to children’s sports camps are among the many activities available. Sailing and white water rafting are minutes away. “The Palais des Sports,” a five-minute drive from the chalet, is a state-of-the-art fitness center complete with a gym, exercise studio (featuring a full schedule of fitness classes), rock climbing wall, pool,indoor tennis courts, squash courts, miniature golf, and 2 movie theaters.


Les Carines–The Best of Both Worlds

Les Carines is ideally located–a ski in and ski out chalet within walking distance (300m) away from the Bergers, a resort hub complete with the ski lift ticket/pass center and ski school, shopping center including a supermarket, pharmacy, medical clinic, and ski and snowboard shops. Five minutes away by car or shuttle, the après-ski life in the village awaits with its charming array of boutiques, cafes, bars, restaurants, and night clubs.

How to Get There

By car from Grenoble : about 1h15mn; from Lyon: about 2hrs.
By train: Paris-Grenoble–about 3h on the TGV.
By air: the airports of Grenoble Saint-Geoirs, Lyon Saint-Exupéry, and Geneva are 1h15mn, 1h30mn, and 2h30mn away respectively. Taxis available at all airports and train stations.
Bus links: See www.altibus.com for bus service from the Lyon and Geneva airports to the Grenoble train station. A regular bus service links the Grenoble train station to l’Alpe d’Huez (see www.transisere.fr) with multiple stops in the resort.
